Sr. Liability Claims Specialist

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Receives, gathers and accurately transmits liability information to the company, from communications with the insured, claimants, and internal staff in a timely manner.
  • Investigates, evaluates, and resolves lost time liability claims, including litigated claims.
  • Mediates situations as they arise between the insured and the insurance company, to include researching coverage issues.
  • Generates checks for indemnity and medical payments daily.
  • Thoroughly investigate a liability claim to the point where a decision can be made.
  • Negotiate liability settlements with claimant parties and attorneys.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Enters and maintains accurate information on a computer system during the claim process, to include final settlement information.
  • Compiles and interprets liability reports on designated accounts, as requested.
  • Participates in claim reviews and attending Risk Control Workshops when requested by agency partners or insureds. These could be in person or by phone.    
  • Willingness to become licensed if required in jurisdiction where claims are handled.
  • Help train and mentor members of the team. Take part in company committees to help the management team develop new standards when warranted. Participate in round tables with Claims Specialists when warranted. 
  • Develops and monitors consistency in procedural matters of claims handling process within CRS.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma; college degree preferred. Technical designations encouraged, such as AIC and CPCU.
  • Experience: 5-7 years’ claims experience with strong background in workers’ compensation or liability claims handling.
  • Licensing: Active state specific Life & Health/Property Casualty Insurance agent’s license required or the ability to acquire license within three months of hire.
  • Skills & Technical Competencies: An ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of claims principles, practices, and insurance coverage interpretation, contributing to workflows and adhering to compliance requirements. They will prioritize problem-solving, actively foster relationships, and collaborate to deliver impactful solutions and a world-class client experience.

The salary range for this role is $65,000 - $109,000. Compensation is based on several factors, including, but not limited to, education, work experience and industry certifications. In addition to your salary, Holmes Murphy offers a comprehensive total rewards program including annual bonuses, total wellbeing benefits and support for professional development.
